<H3>About the RealAudio Encoder 2.0</H3>
The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 allows users to encode audio from many different formats into RealAudio format. Encoded RealAudio material can then be played over the Internet in real-time, using the RealAudio Server and the RealAudio Player. The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 has many exciting <A HREF="features.html">new features</A>.

The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 can encode using two different algorithms:
<UL>
<LI>A <I>new</I> RealAudio 14.4 algorithm provides clearer monophonic AM quality sound, and requires a 14.4 Kbps modem or faster connection to the Internet
<P>
<LI>The RealAudio 28.8 algorithm provides monophonic near-FM quality sound, and requires a 28.8 Kbps modem or faster connection to the Internet

The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 will encode digital audio from a file (<I>Sound Designer II (.sd2), .aiff, .au </I>or <I>.snd</I> format). These release notes contain all the information needed to setup and use the RealAudio Encoder 2.0 for Macintosh.

The RealAudio Encoder for Macintosh comes in two versions: ENCODER and ENCODERX. ENCODERX includes Xtras for <A HREF="http://www.macromedia.com/Tools/Soundedit16/index.html" target="_top">SoundEdit 16 from Macromedia</A> and allows SoundEdit 16 to save sound files directly into the RealAudio format.
