<H2><A NAME="about">About the RealAudio Encoder 2.0 </A></H2>
<P>
The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 allows users to encode audio from many
different formats into the RealAudio format. Encoded RealAudio material
can then be played over the Internet in real-time, using the <A HREF="//www.real.com/server/"
target="_top">RealAudio
Server</A> and the <A HREF="//www.real.com/products/player.html" target="_top">RealAudio Player</A>. The RealAudio Encoder
2.0 has many exciting <A HR EF="features.html">features</A>.
<P>
The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 can encode audio using two different algorithms:
<UL>
<LI>A <I>new</I> RealAudio 14.4 algorithm provides clearer monophonic
AM quality sound, and requires a 14.4 Kbps modem or faster connection
to the Internet. <BR>
<LI>The RealAudio 28.8 algorithm provides monophonic near-FM quality
sound, and requires a 28.8 Kbps modem or faster connection to
the Internet.

The RealAudio Encoder 2.0 will encode digital audio from a file
(<I>.wav, .au, </I>or raw <I>.pcm</I> format). These release notes
contain all the information needed to set up your RealAudio Encoder.
