Release Notes: RealAudio Encoder 3.0 for Windows

System and Software Requirements

The RealAudio Encoder is designed to work in the Windows 95 and Windows NT environments. The following table explains which hardware is required for specific encoder uses. Note that different hardware is required for encoding from a file and encoding a live audio stream.

REQUIREMENTFILE ENCODINGLIVE ENCODING
CPU:
Windows 95/NT
486/66 DXPentium/586, 75 MHz
RAM8 MB8 MB required
16 MB recommended
Hard Disk Space (software)1 MB1 MB
Sound Card16-bit sound card capable of recording an 8 kHz signal

The RealAudio Encoder supports the following input file formats:

TYPESAMPLING RATERESOLUTION
.wav Audio8-kHz, 11-kHz, 22-kHz, or 44-kHz 8- or 16-bit
.au Audio8-kHz, 22-kHz, 44-kHz N/A
Raw .pcm Data8-kHz, 11-kHz, 22-kHz, 44-kHz8- or 16-bit

Note: The Encoder does not support compressed variants of the formats described above. Use a sound editing utility to convert it to a supported format.

The sampling rate of .wav and most .au files is determined automatically. For .pcm files and .au files without "headers" identifying their properties, the Encoder displays a dialog box for choosing the sampling rate and resolution.
