IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have received this error, you are not using the latest RealPlayer. RealPlayer 8 Basic is a FREE, recommended update available for Windows 95/98/NT and recent Macintosh systems.
If your system meets the minimum system requirements, we recommend that you update your player now by clicking here and following the download and installation instructions.
Error #112 Could not connect to server using HTTP.
If you receive this error it is because the Player requested the RealAudio or RealVideo content using HTTP and the corresponding server did not respond. The Player is requesting content through HTTP as specified in the Transport tab of the Preferences window.
If the content provider has RealServer version 4.0 beta 2 or later, this error indicates that the Player could not connect because the server was not running, or because net congestion prevented the Player's request from reaching the server.
Only RealServer 4.0 beta 2 or later can respond to HTTP requests. If the content provider has an older server, it will not respond to the Player's request. Please ask the content provider to upgrade to the latest RealServer.
For more information about HTTP Only mode and using your RealPlayer behind a Firewall, please read our Firewall page.
If you are not behind a firewall or if you are behind a firewall that allows transport through TCP, you can modify your Transport preferences to receive data through TCP by:
- In the RealPlayer, select from the Preferences from the View menu.
- In the Preferences window, click the Transport option.
- Select the appropriate option for your configuration.
- Click OK in the Preferences dialog box to save the change.
Note: For more information about the Transport tab, refer to the Setting Preferences section of the Player Release Notes.
