Error #2 Out of memory.

RealAudio Player 3.0 or earlier

Between your System, browser, and the other applications you have running, there is not enough memory to start RealAudio Player. Sometimes the audio packets are received but not played, and clicking on the file a second time activates the Player. If this does not work, try each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.

  1. Open the RealAudio Player by clicking the icon in the RAPlayer folder before you open your browser.
  2. Quit other applications before starting your browser.

    Macintosh only

  3. Lower the Memory Requirements in the Get Info box of your browser.
  4. Remove System Extensions or INITs which require large amounts of memory.

RealPlayer 4.01 or 5.0

The most likely reason for receiving this error is if your computer does not meet the minimum system requirements for using RealPlayer 4.01 or 5.0.

If you do meet the minimum system requirement, try rebooting your machine and running fewer programs.

If you are using RealPlayer 5.0 and Internet Explorer 3.0x or 4.0x, download and install the latest version ofMicrosoft DirectX.

Error 2 received after increasing the memory of a Macintosh Power PC

If you are receiving this message on a Macintosh after increasing your computer's memory, first verify that the Sound options are set correctly in the Control Panel. If the Sound Options are set correctly, try deleting the Shared Library Manager Preferences file (ASLM Preferences). The ASLM preferences file appears to affect all programs that try to load a shared library into memory.

Verify that the Sound options are set correctly in the Control Panel.

To verify the settings, please do the following:

  1. Under the Apple Menu, select Control Panels
  2. Within Control Panels, select Sound or Monitors & Sound.
  3. From the Pull Down menu, select Sound In.
  4. Click on the Options icon. A Dialog box will open.
  5. Verify that the Options for Play Through and Internal CD are selected. If not, select the appropriate options.
  6. Click OK.
  7. From the Pull Down menu, select Sound Out
  8. Verify that the rate is set to either 22.050 kHz, or 44.100 kHz
  9. Close the dialog.

There may be some bugs with the Sound Control Panel item on some versions of the Mac OS.

Deleting the Shared Library Manager preferences file (ASLM Preferences) also helps cure this behavior and can eliminate error 2 messages.

  1. From the Macintosh Finder, go to the File menu and choose Find.

  2. Under Find items on local disks whose name contains, type ASLM

  3. Click the Find button.

  4. Under items found, you will see a file called ASLM Preferences, located in the System Folder, within the Preferences folder.

  5. Drag the ASLM preferences to the trash and empty the trash.

  6. Restart the Mac.
The Macintosh builds a new ASLM file when it restarts that reflects the increased memory.
