If you receive this error the Player is unable to find the winsock.dll file. This file is used by the Player and other Internet applications to establish and manage network connections.

To locate your winsock.dll:

1. Search for "winsock.dll" using the Find function. This can be found on the Tools menu in Windows Explorer.

2. Move the winsock.dll to the c:\Windows folder.

   Note: If a winsock.dll resides in the Windows folder, all applications requiring the functions in this DLL will be able to use it.

3. Try playing the RealAudio or RealVideo file again.

RealPlayer 4.0 or 5.0

If you receive this error when playing a RealAudio or RealVideo file with RealPlayer 4.0 or 5.0 for Windows 95 and NT on a system using a 16-bit dialer, browser or winsock, then this message is a result of the conflict between the Player (which is 32-bit) and the 16-bit winsock. You need to upgrade your winsock or browser to a 32-bit version or use the 16-bit Windows 3.1 version of RealPlayer.
