RealProducer G2
Frequently Asked Questions

Publishing Questions

  1. Why is RealProducer G2 not successfully uploading the created files?

Generally, if uploading fails when using the Publish Wizard, it is because the address for the FTP server was incorrectly specified. Please recheck the information entered for the FTP server location. Be aware that some servers are case sensitive. Double check all usage of upper and lower-case letters.

If you are not certain where the FTP server is located, check with your ISP. Most ISPs have a separate directory to which all files need to be uploaded before they are posted to customers' directories.

  2. Can I use Front Page or another HTML editor to upload the RealProducer files to the Web server?

You must upload RealProducer files with RealProducer's Publish Wizard. RealProducer uses local file references to produce the initial preview page. The local references are automatically updated to the correct server references when RealProducer's Publish Wizard uploads the .ram/.rpm file to a remote Web server. If FrontPage or another HTML editor is used to upload the files, the references will not be updated and the links will be invalid.

  3. I used RealProducer G2 to initially create my pages. Why do the RealAudio or RealVideo links cause the message, Requested URL is not valid?

RealProducer G2 uses local file references to produce the initial preview page. The local references are automatically updated to the correct server references when RealProducer's Publish Wizard uploads the .ram/.rpm file to a remote Web server. If you are a content creator using RealProducer and the links on your Web page give an invalid URL message, then you need to re-upload the files. When you upload the files, be sure you are using the Publish Wizard to transfer the files to the servers.

Also, be sure that all the information you entered in the various location screens is correct. Be aware that some servers are case sensitive. Double check all usage of upper and lower-case letters.

  4. I successfully used the RealProducer G2 Publish Wizard to uploaded my pages. Why am I unable to preview the pages or see recent changes?

If you are unable to see recently uploaded pages, wait a few minutes and try again. Delays can be expected while your ISP is transferring the Web page files from the remote FTP server or directory to the main Web server. The transfer can take up to twenty minutes depending upon the ISP's transfer schedule.

  5. Why does my RealProducer G2 not encode for live broadcasting?

If you are trying to use RealProducer G2 to do encoding for live broadcasting, you must use a video capture card which is capable of supporting live broadcast encoding. If the video capture card you are using does not support live broadcast encoding, you may not receive a specific error message, but the live broadcast will not work. Please contact your video card manufacturer and ask if your capture card supports live broadcasting.
