1. What are the System Requirements to use RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony to transfer to my Sony player?

In addition to the RealJukebox system requirements, to use RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony to transfer to your Sony portable player you must have:
  • Windows 98GE, Win 98SE, WinME or Win2K pre-installed onto your computer.
  • DirectX 6.0 or later.
  • A USB connection.
  • An OpenMG supported Sony Player.
  • OpenMG 2.0 or later.
For users of OpenMG Jukebox Version 1.0/1.1/1.2
You must upgrade to OpenMG Jukebox Version 2.0 or uninstall v1.x before installing the RealJukebox2 Basic for Sony. If you would like to use RealJukebox2 Basic for Sony only, uninstall OpenMG Jukebox Version 1.0/1.1/1.2. If you would like to use both OpenMG Jukebox and RealJukebox2 Basic for Sony, the upgrade program is available for download at http://www.sony.com/walkmanproductsupport. If you would prefer to receive a FREE OpenMG Version 2.0 CD ROM in lieu of the download, please send your name and address to openmg@am.sony.com.

2. How do I install RealJukebox for Sony?

Before RealJukebox 2 Basic can access your Sony portable player, you must install the "RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony" version of RealJukebox 2. To download and install RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony
  1. Download the most current version of RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony from this page.
  2. Run the Installer for the RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony and follow the on-screen prompts.

3. How do I transfer songs to my Sony portable player with RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony?

Using the following steps, select the desired songs and then transfer them from RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony to your Sony portable player:
  1. Start RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.
  2. Click the Devices button on the Navigation Bar.
  3. Double-click Sony icon.

    Note: RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony may not detect the Sony portable player if you have OpenMG Jukebox (2.0 or later) open at the same time. If you have OpenMG Jukebox open, close both applications and re-open RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.


  4. Double-click the listed device (e.g. Music Clip and NW-S4).
  5. Click the Add Tracks button on the right.
  6. Choose songs from the Library or the Playlists in the Browse dialog box.

    - Use Shift-click to select a range of songs.
    - Use Ctrl-click to select several individual songs.


  7. Click the Add Tracks button.
  8. Click the Close button when you are done choosing songs.
  9. Click the Copy Files button on the right to being transferring your tracks.
Note: Tracks labeled "Will Not Fit" will not transfer. This is because there is not enough space left on the portable device for the song.

4. Can I play songs that I recorded in OpenMG Jukebox in RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony?

Currently, RealJukebox 2 can not import or play OpenMG (.omg) files that were recorded in the Sony OpenMG Jukebox software.

5. Who should I contact for help if I am having problems transferring songs to my Sony player with RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony?

RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony may not detect the Sony portable player if you have OpenMG Jukebox (2.0 or later) open at the same time. If you have OpenMG Jukebox open, close both applications and re-open RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.

6. Why do I get errors when unplugging my device during transfer or formatting?

If your Sony portable player gets disconnected from your computer, RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony is designed to stop the transfer or formatting and you will receive an error message indicating the operation has been cancelled. In some situations, RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony may be unable to create the error in time and the application may crash. We highly recommend not disconnecting your Sony player until after the transfer has completed and RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony has been closed.

7. Why does RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony not recognize my Sony portable player when I connect my device with the supplied USB cable?

Please wait for the authentication of RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony to be finished (this can take several seconds). If the problem persists, disconnect the USB cable, restart your computer, and then connect the USB cable to your computer again.

Note: RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony may not detect the Sony player if you have OpenMG Jukebox (2.0 or later) open at the same time. If you have OpenMG Jukebox open, close both applications and re-open RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.

8. After installing Open MG Jukebox 1.x over my RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony, I am no longer able to transfer with RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony. How do I recover from this situation?

RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony is not compatible with OpenMG Jukebox 1.x. If you have OpenMG Jukebox 1.x installed on your system you will need to uninstall it before installing RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.

Please follow these instructions to recover from this installation:

Step 1
If you have a version of OpenMG Jukebox 1.x currently installed on your computer, uninstall it using Add/Remove Programs.
  1. Unplug the Sony portable device from the USB cable connected to the computer.
  2. From the Start button, choose Settings and click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Click on OpenMG Jukebox 1.1.00, and click the Add/Remove button.
  5. Click yes to the confirmation dialog window.
  6. When prompted to remove shared files, choose Yes To All.
  7. When prompted to remove shared files again, choose Yes.
  8. After you have successfully completed uninstallation process, click the OK button.
Step 2
Uninstall all OpenMG Plug-ins and drivers using Add/Remove Programs.
  1. From the Start button, choose Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Remove ALL OpenMG modules present.
  4. Click the OpenMG Plug-in, and click the Add/Remove button.
  5. Click yes to the "Confirm File Deletion" dialog window.
  6. When prompted to remove shared files, choose Yes.
  7. Click, Finish on "Maintenance Complete" window.
  8. Repeat these steps for any remaining OpenMG Plug-ins and drivers.
  9. Restart the system after you have successfully completed uninstalling all OpenMG Plug-ins and drivers.
Step 3
Remove remaining files and folders and restart the computer.
  1. Delete Browse to the "Sony Corporation" folder located on the C drive in the Program Files folder.
  2. Delete the "Music Clip" folder (if you're using another portable player, please delete the folder associated with your portable player. ie. NW-MS9, etc).
  3. Delete Browse to the "Sony" folder located on the C drive in the Program Files folder.
  4. Delete the "OpenMG Jukebox" folder.
  5. Delete Browse to the "Sony Shared" folder located on the C drive in the Program Files\Common Files folder.
  6. Delete the "OpenMG" folder.
  7. Restart the computer.
Step 4
Download and install RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony.
  1. Download the most current version of RealJukebox 2 Basic for Sony from this site.
  2. Run the Installer for the RealJukebox2 Basic for Sony and follow the on-screen prompts.

2. How do I install the CLIE plug-in for RealJukebox 2?

  1. Start RealJukebox.
  2. Click the Help menu.
  3. Select Check for Update.
  4. Select MP3 for CLIE.
  5. Click the Get it now tab.
  6. A dialogue box will display the download.
In addition, you must enable the plug-in by following these steps:

  1. Start RealJukebox.
  2. Select the Devices tab.
  3. Click on Install Device button.
  4. Select MP3 for CLIE.
  5. Click OK.

3. How do I transfer songs to my Sony CLIE handheld with RealJukebox?

Select the desired songs and then transfer them from RealJukebox to your Sony CLIE Handheld.

  1. Double-click the MP3 for CLIE icon.
  2. Select the Blue Memory Stick icon.
  3. Click the Add Tracks button on the right.
  4. Choose songs from the Library or the Playlists in the Browse dialog box.
    • Use Shift-click to select a range of songs.
    • Use Ctrl-click to select several individual songs.
  5. Click the Add Tracks button.
  6. Click the Close button when you are done choosing songs.
  7. Click the Copy Files button on the right to begin transferring your tracks.

Note: Tracks labeled "Will Not Fit" will not transfer. This is because there is not enough space left on the Memory Stick (CLIE) for the selected song.

  1. Click the Devices button on the Navigation Bar.
  2. Make sure that you have the Memory Stick inserted into the CLIE.
  3. Place the CLIE handheld in the cradle.
  4. Tap the Audio Player icon.
  5. Tap the Menu icon (lower left of screen).
  6. Tap Options and then Transfer.
Note: It is recommended you enable the Stay on in Cradle function on your CLIE handheld while transferring tracks to it.

4. Can I play songs that I recorded in OpenMG Jukebox in RealJukebox?

RealJukebox cannot import or play OpenMG (.omg) files that were recorded in the Sony OpenMG Jukebox software.

Note: RealJukebox 2 may not detect the Sony CLIE handheld if you have OpenMG Jukebox (2.0 or later) open at the same time. If you have OpenMG Jukebox open, close both programs and re-open RealJukebox.
