  2. Where is the Preferences dialog box?

In the Preferences dialog box, you can make changes to your recording options, encoding options, file storage locations, and much more.

To access the Preferences dialog box:

    1. Start RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Options menu and choose Preferences.

Note: Remember to click OK after making any Preference changes. Clicking OK saves your changes.

  3. Should I make a Security Key Backup?

Yes, you should make a Security Key Backup as soon as possible. The Security Key Backup can help you recover data if your secure data format decoding process becomes corrupt.

If you have chosen to create secure files, RealJukebox uses the Security Key to encrypt any created files. This encryption provides a secure data format which is designed to prevent music piracy. To play the secure music, RealJukebox then uses the Security Key to decrypt the files.

If your Security Key is corrupted, damaged, or deleted, all your securely recorded files will become unusable if you do not have a Security Key Backup.

To make a Security Key backup:

    1. Start RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Options menu and choose Security Key Backup.
    3. Follow the Backup instructions.

  4. How do I reduce the amount of resources that RealJukebox uses?

There are two ways to decrease the amount of system resources used by RealJukebox.

Solution 1: Choose a lower bit rate for recording.

    1. In RealJukebox, make sure that you are not recording any music.
    2. Click the Options menu and choose Preferences.
    3. Click the Encoding Options tab.
    4. Choose RealAudio as the Encoding format. The RealAudio format is less resource intensive than MP3.
    5. Choose a lower Quality Level.
    6. Click OK.

You may need to experiment with the Quality Levels to determine where your system records best.

    Solution 2: Lower CPU usage.

    1. Start RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Options menu and choose Preferences.
    3. Click the Recording Options tab.
    4. Click the Advanced CPU Options button.
    5. Move the slider to the left to decrease the CPU usage.
    6. Click OK in the Advanced CPU Options box.
    7. Click OK in the Preferences box to save your changes.

  5. How do I set a different program to play MP3 files whenever I double-click them?

When RealJukebox is installed, it displays a dialog box that requests permission to "reassociate" certain file types, such as MP3, so that they will open in RealJukebox when you double-click them.

If you clicked the OK button, ownership of all MP3 files (as well as some other audio formats) was transferred to RealJukebox.

If you wish to change the default program used to open your MP3 files when you double-click them, do one of the following:

    A. Manually reassociate MP3 files to a different program (this does not change the file icon):

    1. Exit RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Start button, choose Programs, and then Windows Explorer.
    3. Locate and select an MP3 file on your hard drive.
    4. Press Shift+F10, or Shift+right-click the MP3 file you selected in step 3.
    5. Choose Open With from the shortcut menu. (If Open With is not available, repeat steps 3-4.)
    6. In the Open With dialog box, select the program with which you want to reassociate the MP3 file. If the desired program is not listed, click Other, then locate the desired program.
    7. Select the "Always use this program to open files of this type" check box.

Now, when you double-click an MP3 file, the new program will start instead of RealJukebox.

Note: The next time you start RealJukebox, it will detect this change and ask you if you want to reassociate your MP3 files back to RealJukebox. Click the "No" button if you do not want to reassociate your MP3 files to RealJukebox.

    B. Reassociate MP3 files to a different program (this does change the file icon):

    1. Exit RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Start button, choose Programs, and then Windows Explorer.
    3. From the View menu, choose Options (Windows 95 or NT 4.0) or Folder Options (Windows 98), and click the File Types tab.
    4. Select the MP3 Audio file type from the Registered File Types scroll box, then click Edit.
    5. Select the Actions option labeled "open" and click Edit.
    6. In the Editing Action for Type dialog box, click the Browse button.
    7. Click the Browse button to locate and select the program you prefer to use and click Open.
    8. In the Editing Action for Type dialog box, click OK.
    9. Click the Change Icon button, and then click Browse.
    10. Locate and select the program whose icon you want to display on your MP3 files and click Open.
    11. Click OK in the Change Icon dialog box, then in the Edit File Type dialog box, and then in the Options dialog box.

Now, when you double-click an MP3 file, the new program will start instead of RealJukebox. All your MP3 files will also have the icon for the new program.

Note: The next time you start RealJukebox, it will detect this change and ask you if you want to reassociate your MP3 files back to RealJukebox. Click the "No" button if you do not want to reassociate your MP3 files to RealJukebox.
