Portable Music Players

  1. Which portable music players does RealJukebox support?

RealJukebox supports the following portable music players:

    • Diamond Multimedia Rio PMP300
    • Diamond Multimedia Rio 500
    • RCA/Thomson Lyra
    • Creative Labs Nomad

Note: You must have Windows 98 to use the Rio 500 with RealJukebox.

  2. Why does my portable music player not work with RealJukebox under Windows 2000?

The current versions of the portable music player plug-ins were created to function with the operating systems available at the time of their release. At this time, the plug-ins do not function correctly under Microsoft Windows 2000.

When updated versions of the plug-ins are available, they will be available as RealJukebox AutoUpdates.

To check for the availability of new plug-ins with the AutoUpdate feature, do the following:

    1. Start RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Help Menu and choose Check for Update.

When an updated plug-in is available, it will be listed in the AutoUpdate options. There is no target date for the availability of Windows 2000 compatible plug-ins. Please check for new plug-ins by periodically using the RealJukebox AutoUpdate feature.

  3. How do I make RealJukebox recognize my portable music player?

Before RealJukebox can access your portable music player, you must install a portable music player plug-in. The following steps guide you through the installation process.

Note: RealJukebox must download the plug-in from the RealNetworks website if one is not already installed on your computer. You must be connected to the Internet in order for RealJukebox to download plug-ins.

    1. Connect your portable music player to the computer.
    2. Start RealJukebox.
    3. Click the Help Menu and choose Check for Update.
    4. Select your player from the list of plug-ins.
    5. Click the "Get It Now" button.

Once RealJukebox has completed the download, do the following:

    1. Click the Options menu and choose Preferences.
    2. Click the Portable Music Players tab.
    3. Click the Add button.
    4. Choose your music player from the list.
    5. Click OK, then click OK again.

  4. How do I transfer songs to my portable music player?

Using the following steps, select the desired songs or playlists and then transfer them from RealJukebox to your portable music player:

    1. In the Music Library, double-click the Portable Music Players icon.
    2. Double-click your music player (e.g., Diamond Rio).
    3. Click a storage device listed under the music player (e.g., Rio Internal).

    4. Click the Add Tracks button.
    5. Choose songs from the Master Library or the Playlists in the Browse dialog box. Use Shift-click to select a range of songs, or Ctrl-Click to select several individual songs.
    6. Click the Add button.
    7. Click the Close button when you are done choosing songs.
    8. Click the Begin Transfer button.

Note: Tracks labeled "Will Not Fit" will not transfer. This is because there is not enough space left on the portable music player for the song.

RealJukebox will transfer the songs you have selected, displaying a progress bar in the Transfer status area:

  5. Why doesn't RealJukebox work with my Rio 500 under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4?

The Rio 500 requires an operating system that supports a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector. Windows 95 and Windows NT do not provide support for USB connectors. As stated in the Rio 500 system requirements, Windows 98 is required in order to use the Rio 500.

While the option to download the Rio 500 plug-in is available in RealJukebox on Windows 95 or Windows NT 4, you will receive the error "No update available at this time" if you try to download the plug-in.

  6. Why does RealJukebox display multiple flashcards under my Lyra portable music player?

There were some limitations to the way early versions of the RealJukebox Lyra plug-in detected flashcards. This could cause odd behavior, including multiple flashcards to appear under the Lyra portable device in the RealJukebox Music Library.

This problem has been resolved by an update to the RealJukebox Lyra plug-in.

To download the new RealJukebox Lyra plug-in, do the following:

    1. Start RealJukebox.
    2. Click the Help menu and choose Check for Update.
    3. Select the Lyra plug-in from the list.
    4. Click "Get It Now" to download and install the update.
    5. Restart RealJukebox when prompted.

RealJukebox will now correctly detect flashcards.

  7. Who should I contact for help if I am having problems transferring songs to my Diamond Multimedia Rio with RealJukebox?

First, try to isolate the cause of the problem. Is the problem specifically with the Rio player or with RealJukebox? The answer will direct you to the correct source for assistance.

Try transferring songs to your Rio with the transfer software provided by Diamond Multimedia. If you cannot transfer songs with the Diamond Multimedia software, there may be a problem with your Rio player, the connection cable, or the way your computer is configured. For assistance, contact S3 Incorporated technical support.

If you can transfer songs to your Rio player with the Diamond Multimedia software, but not RealJukebox, temporarily use the Diamond Multimedia software to transfer your songs until you can contact RealNetworks technical support for help with RealJukebox.
