How do I configure the AOL 3.0 web browser to work with the RealPlayer 7 for Windows?
The AOL 3.0 browser is a customized version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. RealPlayer 7 for Windows 95 is compatible with the 32-bit Windows 95 AOL 3.0 browser. RealPlayer 7 is not compatible with the 16-bit Windows 3.1 AOL 3.0 browser.
If you are having problems using the RealPlayer 7 for Windows 95 with your AOL 3.0 web browser, verify that you have the 32-bit version of the browser.
To verify that you are using the 32-bit version of the AOL browser:
- Reinstall RealPlayer 7. If you no longer have the RealPlayer 7 installer, download it from the
RealNetworks website.
- During the installation, the installation program searches your hard drive for web browsers on your system. If the following browsers were found on your system dialog box does not display the AOL browser, then you have the 16-bit version of the browser.
You will need to obtain the 32-bit version of the AOL 3.0 browser for Windows 95, or upgrade to the latest version of AOL. If you are an AOL member, you can download the Windows 95 version of the AOL 3.0 browser for free. Connect to AOL, select the Keyword icon, and type the word upgrade when the dialog box appears. The screen for the AOL 3.0 browser appears and explains the steps to upgrade.
During installation, RealPlayer 7 will automatically configure your browser.
If the installer does not automatically configure your browser, you must manually configure the AOL 3.0 web browser:
- Start AOL 3.0 after installing the RealPlayer 7.
- Click the Globe icon on the menu bar.
- Click the Prefs button.
- Click the Programs button.
- Click the File Types.
- Select RealAudio File in the Registered file types list. Note: If a RealAudio file entry does not exist, you need to add one. Refer to the instructions below for adding a new File Type.
- Click the Edit... button and verify that the Action is open.
- Click the Edit... button and verify that the path name in the application used to perform action: field is correct. If it is not, browse to where the RealPlayer is located on your computer and click the OK button.
- If a RealAudio entry does not exist in the File Types:
- Click New Type.
- Enter the following information in the appropriate box:
Description: RealMedia File
Associated Extensions: .rm
Content Type (MIME): application/vnd.rn-realmedia - Click the New... button.
- Type "open" (without the quotes) in the Action: field.
- Type "C:\Program Files\Real\Realplayer\Realplay.exe" (without the quotes) in the Application used to perform action: field. Note: If you have installed the RealPlayer into a different directory you will need to put this path name in the Application used to perform action: field or browse and select the path to the Realplay.exe application.

How do I configure the AOL 4.0 and 5.0 web browser to work with the RealPlayer 7 for Windows?
The process for configuring helper programs (i.e., MIME types) in AOL 4.0 and 5.0 has changed since AOL 3.0. You can no longer make MIME type changes from within the AOL browser. AOL 4.0 and 5.0 now use Windows 95 File Type settings. Follow the steps below to set up AOL to automatically start RealPlayer when you click a RealMedia link.
Note: A simpler way to accomplish this is to run the RealPlayer installation program again. Make sure you choose AOL 4.0 or 5.0 as your browser. From there everything will be configured automatically.

- Click the Start button, choose Programs, and then Windows Explorer.

How do I configure Opera 3.0 to work with RealPlayer 7 for Windows?
RealPlayer 7 is compatible with the Opera 3.0 browser. However, Opera 3.0 does not recognize the RealPlayer plug-in or RealG2 with Flash content. This affects those sites where the content is only offered in embedded or Java accessed RealPlayer format. The plug-in recognition problem does not occur with Opera 3.1.
In order to automatically start RealPlayer 7 and begin playback when a RealAudio or RealVideo link is clicked, Opera must be manually configured. Use the following instructions to configure the browser:
- Start Opera 3.0.
- Click the Preferences menu (press Ctrl+F11 if the menu is not visible)
- From the Preferences menu, choose Associate.
- In the Associate dialog box, click the New button.
- Enter application/vnd.rn-realmedia in the Type dialog box.
- Click OK.
- Enter .rm in the Extensions field.
- Click Show with Registered Application.
- Click OK.

How do I configure Opera 3.1 to work with RealPlayer 7 for Windows?
RealPlayer 7 is compatible with the Opera 3.1 browser. However, Opera 3.1 does not yet recognize RealG2 with Flash content.
In order to automatically start RealPlayer 7 and begin playback when a RealAudio or RealVideo link is clicked, Opera must be manually configured. Use the following instructions to configure the browser:
- Click the Start button, choose Find, and then Files or Folders.
- Search your computer for the file named Npra32.dll.
- Copy Npra32.dll to the C:\Opera\Plugins folder.
- Start Opera 3.1.
- From the Preferences menu, choose Associate. (Press Ctrl+F11 if the menu is not visible.)
- In the Associate dialog box, click the New button.
- Enter application/vnd.rn-realmedia in the Type dialog box.
- Click OK.
- Enter .rm in the Extensions field.
- Click Show with Registered Application.
- Click OK.

Once the browser is configured to recognize RealPlayer 7, you must configure it to recognize the RealPlayer plug-in:
- Start Opera.
- From the Preferences menu, choose Associate. (Press Ctrl+F11 if the menu is not visible.)
- In the Associate dialog box, click the New button.
- Enter audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin in the Type dialog box.
- Click OK.
- Enter .rpm in the Extensions field.
- Click Show with Registered Application.
- Click the Find Plugin button.
- A message will appear stating that Opera has found a plug-in for this type. Click OK.
- Click OK for each of the messages, then close the dialog box.
