Chapter 2: Installing RealEncoder
Installing RealEncoder is quick and easy. Before you begin, make sure your computer meets the necessary system requirements. See "System Requirements" for more information.
How to Install
To install RealEncoder from the RealNetworks Website
- Download the installation program.
- Close any other applications that may be open and double-click on the installation program icon.
The installer begins by preparing your system for RealEncoder. When complete, the installer opens to the Software License page.
- Read the terms and conditions carefully, and click Accept if you agree. You can click Cancel at any time to abort the installation.
- Enter your name and e-mail address in the appropriate fields.
- Modify the directory RealEncoder will install into by clicking the Browse button and selecting the new path.
- Click OK when the installation is completed.
System Requirements
This section outlines the basic hardware and software requirements needed to run RealEncoder. Requirements are based upon whether you are recording from existing media files or from media devices.
RealEncoder is currently available for the following operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 95®
- Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
Requirements for Recording from Files
The following table lists the minimum and the recommended requirements for converting existing audio and video files into RealMedia files:

Requirements for Recording from Media Devices
