What types of files can RealOne Player play?
- RealOne Player RealOne Player can play a wide variety of media from your computer and over the Internet. Additional software plug-ins may be available that will let you play other file types. For a list of the currently available software plugins, click Menu in RealOne Player, then select Check for Update. The following list shows the standard file types that RealOne Player can play:
.rm, .ra, .ram RealAudio and RealVideo streamed content To play audio and video on the computer, compression techniques are used to remove redundant data and make the files smaller. The codec is the technique used for the compression and decompression. Operating systems come with pre-installed standard codecs like Apple QuickTime or Microsoft Video for Windows. If a file was created using a non-standard codec, the matching codec must also be installed on the computer before the file can be played. You can install these codecs through the Check for Upgrade. If you click on a file that is not standard for RealOne Player, the AutoUpdate feature will try to install a plug-in to match. If a plug-in exists, RealOne Player will download and install it so you can play the file. If a plug-in is not available, RealOne Player will return a "No update available", "Unable to render", "Decompressor not found" or "Missing codec" error. These errors occur because the file was created with a codec that is not installed on your computer. RealOne Player plug-ins may not be available for all types of files. |
